I think bodybuilding is kept off tv because it is an obscene disgrace!

And correction it was never a sport to begin with, it is a beauty pagent for the fitness girls and a freak pageant for the bodybuilders.

The events are never televised.

You were right to an extent about the family and friends part, but the family and friends of the competitors are massive drug dealers.

There is skill involved in both dieting and lifting!! I would also certainly consider good technique and approach to weightlifting a talent!!!

Ridiculous statement!!!!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x

There is skill involved in both dieting and lifting!! I would also certainly consider good technique and approach to weightlifting a talent!!! no there is not . . . . . . and i sure as hell wouldnt. there is no skill in dieting or weightlifting . . . . just discipline that anyone can learn. excelling in strength is a different story . . . but i wasnt talking about that -- this conversation has now lost all relevance as people are discussing different things. First of all the bodybuilding topic is over as it is agreed it is not a sport. But moving on to the quote i took from ur post, which was about lifting and dieting and i believe there is both skill and talent involved in that! It is also only reasonable that we talk about excelling in total physique development and weightlifting because to be average at anything is easy.

And as for saying there is no co-ordination required... haha... thats just about the most ignorant and stupid thing to say about lifting!! The fundimental requirement to train and lift is co-ordination!! pushing and pulling heavy shit does not require any athletic co-ordination at all . . . . take the deadlift . . . . standing up with a fucking weight is not co-ordination . . . . its fucking standing up!! Wrong. It is lifting in an appropriate way so as to maximise muscle or strength development. Also if i were to deadlift the same way i pick up a bag i would be crippled by now! Also cleans, snatches, frount squat, heavy (1rm) bench and squat all require co-ordination of many different muscle groups.

I very much accept ur arguement about bodybuilding not being a sport, as i agree it is no longer a sport. But ur above quote is wrong!! Also weightlifting which involves both lifting weights and dieting is a sport! and an olympic sport! as ryan said bodybuilding never was a sport . . . . who in their right mind would accept getting on stage in a thong and flexing to music as a sport? . . . . and where did i say olympic lifting isnt a sport?? you can excell at lifting . . . . you cannot excell at flexing pretty much naked on stage completely agree about bodybuilding!! But the quote i took from your post, as above was about lifting and diet... they are the only 2 elements of olympic lifting, make the weight and make the lift.

It is the obscene drug use and 'show day' which makes bodybuilding perhaps different and not a sport... but the men and women are athletes! its a "beauty" pageant end of story . . . . . to be an athlete you must compete in a sport . . . . therefore they are not athletes . . . . sure they train and diet like athletes . . . . doesnt make them an athlete . . . . if i can draw a picture . . . would you consider me to be an artist?? i sure as hell wouldnt :-o :-o
