nah takes me 35-45 mins depending on the session.
I presume ur using the one set per exercise with forced reps negs etc. How many exercises per body part are u using and how many mins rest between each exercise?

It's all about INTENSITY man. Get in there and get it done! 1 set per exercise to bring your muscle to complete failure. For get about this 3 minutes rest business. Move onto the next exercise within a minute.

Wow... what a pile of shit.
I honestly cant believe novices think this is the way to train. You think Yates started off training like that?? Wrong.
Everyone wants to train like the pros... but nobody wants to do the training that got them there.

When insulin levels are elevated in the body, it is physiologically impossible to burn muscle for energy (on a cell to cell basis). When insulin is present in the bloodstream it is also impossible oxidize fatty acids from adipocytes. |

Although I did have some success with HIT and used it for 6 months, I found it hard to keep strict form with it. I was pushing to lift heavy and for the final set or even the final two sets, I'd be all over the place and would be up some days and down others. Changed back to 6-6-6 and since then I've made better, more consistent gains.
I definitely think it initially worked for me and help move through a plateau but for maintained, consistent gains I think people must start with the fundamentals. So I think Kieran has a point.
How many people on here use HIT? Does it work for ya's?

5-3-1 seems like a different training system to HIT

If you're using it Ryan, how are you finding it so far? How long have you been using it?

Its one way of training.. uncomplicated, precise, no messing balls to the wall strength training. Its a long term program that focuses on squat/bench/deadlift/overhead press and accessory work for those lifts. Show me someone that makes contant progress on the core exercises and doesnt get bigger as a result. Then Ill show you countless young lads thinking their Dorian Yates who went all weak at the knees THINKING they were doing HIT and made fuck all progress over the same period of time.
Unless you have a fairly extensive training history you simply wont have the CNS recruitment to benefit from HIT. I mean if your really going balls out to get that extra forced rep on 60kg bench then you should really ask yourself if you'd be better off, bigger and stronger if you were lifting double or triple the weight. I know very few people who lift big and arent big themselves. I also know fuck all people (and this includes some of Irelands best/most successful powerlifters and bodybuilders) who got to where they are now doing something Mike Mentzer wrote about to make some cash money.

Yes. Anyone who takes 531 seriously makes either weight or repetition pr's ever single workout except for the de-load weeks which he recommends you incorporate from time to time.
Even the de-load weeks are efficient... you don't stop training, conditioning work stays
(prowler push/tyre flips/hill sprints/normal sprinting), but you prepare each workout in the de-load week in the same vain as a normal week of 531.
One thing that improves straight away is grip strength. You leave your straps at the door and incorporate kroc rows and hundreds of chins in to the routine and voila you are a beast
My kroc row is 35kg for 32 reps at the moment. I perform 2 sets a week, in the same workout.

I wasnt talking about 531 specifically... just linear progression.
531 is good because its simple, and its all done out for you and it gets people doing the fundamentals consistently.
There are plenty of other programmes that are just as good, and, if talking about strength gains over a shorter period of time, far superior. But that all depends on what your training for and the timeframe involved. So lets not sound like its the be all and end all of strength training, its just an example of something thats proven to work for a broad spectrum of beginner to elite level athletes.

Ok. Point taken. I guess im just excited by it. I have never tried such an efficient and enjoyable programme before.
I also like having things planned out for the week assistance wise and weight wise for the month...I used to keep every single workout completely different and this negated strength gains.
531 may not be good for working on 1 rep max for lifts but it suits someone who wants to get big as well as strong.
