I had always heard that eating tuna could give you mercury poising, but I always thought it was after a fair amount someone once said to me more than 5 tins a day but from reading the article below it says that a 200lbs man should take in maybe one tin of tuna a week. Anyone else any knowledge on the topic, as I am student I eat alot of tuna because of the price, if it is so bad for you what other cheap alternatives are there?
Personally I wouldnt worry about mercury poisoning. However, I hate tuna and never eat it anyway. There are plenty of other sources of cheap protein. Mince, eggs, milk etc. if you are concerned.
I eat about 3/4 cans a week, in seperate sittings, and have never had any sort of negative effects from it.
With the amount of health regulations and food standards in the world, I'd be surprised if such a popular food would have such serious health risks.
